World Health Day: Fubara Targets Health Tourism, Expands Workforce in Rivers

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, with a focus on accessibility, affordability, and improved service delivery.

In a goodwill message to mark World Health Day, the governor said his government would continue to prioritise policies and programmes that guarantee quality healthcare services for all residents.

According to reports by Punch Newspapers, Governor Fubara disclosed that his administration has recruited over 2,000 health workers to boost manpower across the state’s medical facilities. He also highlighted the ongoing upgrade of healthcare infrastructure and the introduction of a state health insurance scheme aimed at reducing the financial burden on residents.

The report further noted that the governor is pursuing a broader vision of transforming Rivers State into a health tourism hub, where residents and visitors can access efficient and affordable medical services.

Additional reports by The Guardian Nigeria indicate that the state government has taken steps to revitalise previously underperforming health institutions, including zonal hospitals, while also remodelling numerous primary healthcare centres to enhance service delivery at the grassroots level.

Governor Fubara also called on residents to take proactive steps toward maintaining good health by adopting healthy lifestyles, observing proper hygiene, and supporting community-based health awareness initiatives.

World Health Day, observed annually on April 7, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness on critical health issues and encouraging collective action to improve public health outcomes.
