Bayelsa State marked a significant milestone on Friday, April 10, 2026, as it hosted the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on a one-day state visit during which he inaugurated four major infrastructure projects executed by the state government.
The projects, described as legacy initiatives of the Government of Assured Prosperity, include the 2.9-kilometre New Yenagoa City Road One linking the Airport Road, the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, the 42-kilometre Sagbama-Ekeremor Road, and the 60-megawatt gas turbines power project.
Governor Douye Diri said the visit and inauguration underscored the growing partnership between the federal and state governments in driving sustainable development. He noted that the projects were strategically designed to improve connectivity, boost economic activities, and enhance the quality of life for residents across the state.
Diri particularly highlighted the significance of the 60MW gas-fired turbines, stating that the project aligns with ongoing reforms in the power sector driven by the Tinubu administration. According to him, the intervention has enabled the state to move closer to achieving reliable and independent electricity supply.
“Your administration’s decisive policy interventions have paved the way for meaningful reforms in critical sectors, especially power. This has empowered us to deliver on our commitment to providing stable and independent energy for our people,” the governor said.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support and commendation of the state government’s efforts, describing the visit as a strong vote of confidence in Bayelsa’s development agenda.
The governor also acknowledged the presence of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as well as other governors and dignitaries who attended the event in solidarity.
Diri further commended the people of Bayelsa State for their warm reception and widespread participation, noting that communities across the state turned out in large numbers to welcome the President, showcasing the renowned hospitality of the Ijaw people.
He expressed optimism that the inauguration of the projects would usher in a new phase of growth and prosperity for the state, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sustained development and improved welfare for all citizens.
