Standing Up For Democracy: ADC Leaders Lead Peaceful Protest

Prominent Nigerians, political leaders, and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday staged a peaceful protest in a renewed call to safeguard the nation’s democracy.

The demonstration, tagged “Save Democracy,” was led by the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and drew participants from various walks of life who expressed concern over the state of democratic governance in the country.

Speaking during the protest, participants described the gathering as more than a political statement, noting that it served as a moment of reflection on the nation’s democratic journey and the challenges currently confronting it. They warned against what they termed the “gradual suffocation” of democratic principles by individuals who once positioned themselves as defenders of democracy but are now accused of undermining it and silencing opposition voices.
The protesters stressed the need for vigilance and collective action to protect democratic institutions, insisting that the struggle for a free and fair society must not be compromised for personal or political gain.

They further maintained that history would judge harshly those who abandon democratic ideals for the privileges of power, reiterating their resolve to remain steadfast in the face of intimidation.
The demonstration concluded with a renewed call for unity among Nigerians and a strong affirmation that the will of the people must ultimately prevail.

The protest aligns with growing calls across the country for reforms aimed at strengthening democratic values, with participants expressing optimism that a “new Nigeria” remains achievable.
