HYPREP Boosts Peacebuilding, Curbs Oil Theft, Environmental Pollution In Ogoni — Zabbey

The Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, has said that the agency’s interventions in Ogoniland are playing a significant role in promoting peace, strengthening security, and reducing oil theft and environmental pollution in the area.

Zabbey made this known on Thursday while hosting the Coordinator of the Joint Intelligence and Monitoring Centre under Operation Delta Safe, Major General A.A. Idris, at the HYPREP Project Coordination Office in Port Harcourt.
He explained that HYPREP’s peacebuilding efforts are anchored on strategic initiatives such as large-scale job creation, provision of critical infrastructure, and sustained engagement with host communities and key stakeholders, including former artisanal refiners.

According to him, these interventions have helped to address some of the root causes of unrest and illegal activities in the region, thereby fostering stability and cooperation among residents.
The HYPREP coordinator also commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his continued support in providing security for the Ogoni Cleanup Programme.

In his remarks, Major General Idris said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between Operation Delta Safe and HYPREP through enhanced information sharing and intelligence gathering, with a view to safeguarding critical assets and ensuring the safety of lives in the region.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of both Operation Delta Safe and HYPREP.
