Gov Diri Mobilises Bayelsans For President’s Visit

Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has called on residents of the state to turn out in large numbers to استقبال President Bola Tinubu during his scheduled visit on April 10, 2026.

The governor made the appeal on Sunday while speaking at an Easter service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. He described the presidential visit as both significant and symbolic, noting that it presents an opportunity for Bayelsans to demonstrate their renowned hospitality and unity.
Diri emphasised that key projects slated for inauguration during the one-day visit are pivotal to the state’s economic transformation and long-term development. According to him, these initiatives reflect his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and creating opportunities for investment and tourism.

Among the projects highlighted is the 60-megawatt gas turbine, which the governor described as critical to enhancing electricity supply across the state. He noted that stable power remains a fundamental driver of economic growth and industrial development.
He also underscored the importance of the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma bridge, describing it as a historic breakthrough for communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

“For over six decades, people in Southern Ijaw have had no direct road access to Yenagoa. This bridge changes that reality and opens up new economic prospects for our people,” he said.
Reaffirming the values of peace and unity among the Ijaw people, Diri urged residents to maintain harmonious coexistence, particularly as the state prepares to receive the President.

“We are known for our unity and peaceful nature. Let us continue to uphold these virtues as one people,” he added.
Reflecting on the significance of the Easter celebration, the governor called on citizens to embrace the message of love and sacrifice exemplified by Jesus Christ, stressing the need for compassion, unity, and responsible conduct.

Dignitaries present at the service included the governor’s wife, Dr. Gloria Diri; Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo; Head of Service, Dr. Wisdom Sawyer; and Acting Chief of Staff, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, among other top government officials and political leaders.
The April 10 visit is expected to attract widespread attention as the state showcases major infrastructural milestones aimed at driving sustainable development.
