The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has urged Christians across the state to embrace love and peace as they celebrate the Easter season, while extending compassion and support to the less privileged in society.
In an Easter message, the governor called on Christian faithful to uphold the teachings of Jesus Christ by pursuing peace, unity, and harmony, and by offering prayers for Nigeria’s continued stability and social cohesion.
Describing Easter as a sacred and significant occasion, Governor Nwifuru extended warm greetings to Christians in Ebonyi State and beyond, noting that the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ remains the cornerstone of the Christian faith.
He stated that Easter symbolizes sacrifice, redemption, and the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair, and life over death, adding that the death and resurrection of Christ serve as both a spiritual victory and a moral compass guiding believers toward lives of humility, love, and selflessness.
The governor acknowledged the prevailing economic and social challenges facing the nation, including security concerns and uncertainties across various sectors, stressing that the message of Easter is especially relevant in such times.
According to him, the season calls for a collective resolve to rise above division, reject hatred and violence, and embrace unity, compassion, and forgiveness as exemplified by Christ.
Governor Nwifuru further highlighted his administration’s commitment to addressing these challenges through deliberate policies and strategic interventions aimed at strengthening security, enhancing community vigilance, improving infrastructure, advancing healthcare delivery, empowering youths, and boosting agricultural development in line with the People’s Charter of Needs.
He, however, noted that governance alone cannot achieve the desired transformation, emphasizing the need for active citizen participation in building a peaceful and prosperous society.
The governor therefore urged Christians and all Ebonyi residents to be their brother’s keeper, promote peace in their communities, and extend acts of charity and kindness to those in need.
He expressed optimism that with unity of purpose, faith in God, and collective effort, Ebonyi State and Nigeria would overcome current challenges and achieve lasting peace, prosperity, and shared progress.
