Diri Pays Final Respects To Late Senator Barinada Mpigi In Rivers

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has paid his final respects to the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, describing him as a visionary leader and dedicated advocate for the Niger Delta.

The governor made this known on Sunday following a condolence visit to the family of the deceased in Koroma community, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State. He also attended the funeral outing service held at the Beth-El Anglican Church, Koroma Deanery, Diocese of Ogoni.
Speaking during the church service, Governor Diri said his presence was to honour the memory of a friend and brother whose life was marked by impact, integrity, and service to humanity. He noted that the late Mpigi was an astute politician whose contributions to national development would not be forgotten.

Diri recalled his long-standing relationship with the deceased, which began during their time as colleagues in both the Green and Red Chambers of the National Assembly. He emphasized that Mpigi was a courageous voice for the Niger Delta, consistently championing the development of the oil-rich region.
“As a worthy son of Ogoni land and the Niger Delta, Senator Mpigi demonstrated rare passion and commitment to the collective struggle for justice and development,” the governor stated.

Reflecting on the inevitability of death, Governor Diri reminded the congregation that, as Christians, life is transient and death remains an unavoidable end.
On behalf of the Government and people of Bayelsa State, under the Assured Prosperity administration, he extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late senator, including his father, Sir (Chief) Sunday Mpigi, his wife Patricia, children, and other relatives.
He prayed for strength and comfort for the family, urging them to remain united in the face of the loss.

“May God grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss and keep them strong and united,” he added.
