Governor Douye Diri has called on political actors to adhere strictly to democratic rules and maintain unity as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Speaking at the 185th State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Yenagoa, the governor cautioned against allowing political ambitions to create division among the people, emphasizing that power ultimately comes from God.
Diri urged aspirants seeking elective offices to engage at the grassroots by returning to their wards, constituencies, and local government areas to canvass support, particularly for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stressed the importance of peaceful political engagement, noting that the stability and unity of the state must not be sacrificed on the altar of political interests.
In a related development, the governor was honoured with the Sports Governor of the Year 2025 award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN). The award was received on his behalf by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Igali.
Additionally, Diri received two awards from the First International Deep Sea Port Investment Forum, which were accepted by the Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Faith Zibs-Godwin.
The Executive Council meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe, alongside other top government officials.
The governor’s remarks come amid increasing political activities nationwide, with stakeholders beginning to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
