Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has declared that only aspirants with verifiable achievements in office will be considered for the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made this known on Wednesday during the commissioning of several constituency projects alongside the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi.
Speaking through the Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, Governor Nwifuru emphasized that the party would adopt a performance-based approach in selecting its candidates, warning that underperforming officeholders should not expect automatic renomination.
He stressed that the era of recycling candidates without tangible results was over, noting that the party was determined to avoid repeating what he described as the “mistakes” of the 2023 elections.
“The time for stock-taking has come. Only those with visible achievements and impactful representation will be considered to fly the party’s flag in 2027,” the governor stated.
He added that aspirants who have failed to deliver meaningful development in their constituencies would have themselves to blame if denied the party’s ticket.
In his remarks, Senator Nwebonyi said his constituency projects were driven by a desire to complement the developmental strides of the Nwifuru administration in Ebonyi State.
He reiterated his commitment to effective representation, promising to set a high benchmark in governance if given another mandate in 2027.
“I undertook these projects beyond my core legislative duties of lawmaking and oversight to support the governor’s efforts in our senatorial district,” he said.
Projects commissioned during the visit included road constructions, classroom blocks, and installation of streetlights, all aimed at improving infrastructure and living standards across the district.
The development signals a shift within the APC in Ebonyi State toward accountability and performance-based politics as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 elections.
