The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its determination to remain a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape, declaring that it will not allow the party to fade through non-participation in future elections.
This assurance was contained in a statement issued by Bukola Saraki following the party’s just-concluded National Convention, where he emphasized that the successful conduct of the exercise demonstrates the party’s readiness to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“It will not be under our watch that the PDP will die through non-participation in the general election,” Saraki stated, noting that the party has backed its words with decisive action through the smooth and credible organization of the convention.
Following the event, the party leadership stressed that the immediate priority is to consolidate on the gains achieved by focusing on reconciliation, strengthening internal democratic processes, and fostering unity among members nationwide.
According to Saraki, the PDP now offers a “solid and credible platform” for aspirants and supporters seeking to pursue their political ambitions in 2027. He added that the outcome of the convention has effectively dispelled doubts about the party’s readiness to contest, assuring Nigerians that the PDP will be on the ballot as a viable alternative.
“For the doubting Thomases, there is now no room for uncertainty — the PDP will participate fully and provide Nigerians with a credible option,” he said.
The former Senate President also congratulated members of the newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC), as well as other stakeholders who emerged with new responsibilities during the convention. He charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by working diligently to secure victory for the party at all levels in the forthcoming elections.
“They must understand that their mandate is clear — to win the 2027 elections for the PDP across the board. They must not fail. In fact, they must surprise Nigerians with a very successful outing,” he added.
He further expressed appreciation to party loyalists and supporters who have remained steadfast despite internal challenges, describing their commitment as vital to the party’s survival and future success.
With the conclusion of the National Convention, attention is now expected to shift toward strategic mobilization, alliance-building, and policy articulation as the PDP seeks to reclaim political dominance on the national stage.
