Diri Pays Last Respects to Rev. Umah Ukpai in Umuahia



Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Thursday attended the funeral service of renowned cleric, Rev. (Dr.) Umah Ukpai, in Umuahia, Abia State, where he paid glowing tribute to the late preacher’s life of impact and service to Christianity.

The governor, who was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Gloria Diri, joined his Abia State counterpart, Alex Otti, and other dignitaries at the solemn event held in honour of the revered man of God.
Speaking during the occasion, Governor Diri commended Governor Otti for organizing a state burial for the late Ukpai, describing the gesture as a fitting recognition of his immense contributions to the growth of the Christian faith in Nigeria and beyond.

He noted that his presence at the funeral was not only to mourn but also to celebrate the enduring legacy of a spiritual leader who positively influenced countless lives and maintained a strong connection with Bayelsa State.
Diri further described the late Ukpai as a “great Nigerian, a legend, and one of the most revered fathers of faith,” whose teachings and humanitarian efforts would continue to inspire generations.

On behalf of the government and people of Bayelsa State, the governor extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate and extended family of the deceased, as well as leaders of the Christian community across the country.
Rev. Ukpai, widely respected for his decades-long ministry and evangelistic work, was laid to rest amid tributes from religious leaders, government officials, and admirers from within and outside Nigeria.

The Bayelsa governor concluded his message with a final farewell, praying for the peaceful repose of the departed cleric.
