Wike Leads Rivers Delegation to London, Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Senator Barinada Mpigi

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday led a delegation of prominent Rivers State leaders to London to commiserate with the family of the late Barinada Mpigi, who passed away last week after a brief illness.

Wike visited the widow and children of the deceased senator in the United Kingdom, where they are currently concluding arrangements for the repatriation of his remains to Nigeria for burial rites.
Speaking during the condolence visit, the former Rivers State governor described the late Mpigi, fondly called “Barry,” as a loyal ally, dependable friend, and a man of unwavering conviction.

“He was a dependable ally whose friendship was never in doubt. When Barry says he is your friend, he is your friend. And if he says he will not work with you, you don’t need to ask anyone whether he will change his mind,” Wike stated.
The FCT Minister lamented that Mpigi’s death came at a critical time when his experience and political insight were most needed, noting that his passing has created a significant vacuum within political and social circles in Rivers State and beyond.

“It is very unfortunate that we lost him at a time he was greatly needed. But we cannot question God. He gives, and He takes,” he added solemnly.
Wike offered prayers for divine strength and comfort for the bereaved family, urging them to remain strong in the face of the painful loss.

He prayed that God grants the widow, children, members of the Mpigi family, as well as friends and associates of the late senator, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Senator Mpigi was widely regarded as a principled politician and steadfast associate, remembered for his loyalty, clarity of purpose, and firm stance on issues of governance and partnership. His death has continued to draw tributes from political leaders and stakeholders across the country.
