Wike Inspects Collector Road C01, Confirms May 2026 Completion, Orders Extension to Zuba Road

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the ongoing construction of Collector Road C01 within the Institute and Research District of Abuja, assuring that the project will be completed by May 2026.

The minister gave the assurance on Tuesday during an inspection tour of the road project, which links Baze University, the Body of Benchers, Nile University, the Wupa Train Station of the Abuja Light Rail, the Annex Building of the Body of Benchers, and the access road from Bill Clinton Drive (Airport Road) to Tungan Madaki community.
Wike noted that substantial progress has been made on the project and disclosed that the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), has committed to delivering the road within the agreed timeline.

“I am impressed with the level of work done so far. The contractor has assured us that the Collector Road C01 will be completed by May 2026, which means the project will be ready for inauguration during Mr President’s third-year anniversary in office,” the minister said.
He described the road as a critical piece of infrastructure that will significantly improve connectivity within the Institute and Research District while enhancing access to key educational, legal, transport and residential facilities in the area.

In a further move to expand road connectivity and open up surrounding communities, Wike directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to liaise with CCECC on a new design to extend the Tungan Madaki access road to connect with the Zuba Road.
“This extension is necessary to open up the area, improve traffic flow and support future development. I have directed the FCDA to immediately coordinate with the contractor on the design,” he added.

The FCT Administration has continued to prioritize strategic road infrastructure as part of broader efforts to decongest Abuja, improve mobility and stimulate economic activities across the territory.
