Nwifuru Suspends Two Ebonyi Commissioners Indefinitely

Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has ordered the indefinite suspension of two key members of the State Executive Council over alleged dereliction of duty.

The affected officials are Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, Commissioner for Works, and Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara, Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession.

In a Public Service Announcement issued on Friday, the governor said the suspension takes immediate effect, stressing that the action was necessary to reinforce discipline, responsibility, and efficiency within the state’s public service system.

The decision is seen as a strong statement by the Nwifuru administration on its zero-tolerance stance toward negligence and non-performance, particularly in critical sectors such as works and infrastructure development, which are central to the state’s growth and urban renewal drive.

The suspended commissioners have been directed to hand over all government property in their possession, including official vehicles and other state assets, to the Secretary to the State Government without delay.

Observers note that the move underscores the governor’s determination to ensure that public office holders remain accountable and aligned with the administration’s development agenda.

The announcement was signed by Dr. Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and dated February 28, 2026.
