Governor Fubara Urges Massive Turnout, Peaceful Conduct in Ahoada East and Khana Bye-Elections

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on eligible voters in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas to turn out in large numbers for the bye-elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Speaking at Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara described the exercise as a crucial democratic responsibility and a “family affair,” urging constituents to demonstrate unity, maturity, and commitment to the progress of the state by participating fully in the polls.

The bye-election is being conducted to fill two vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Ahoada East and Khana constituencies.

The Governor specifically canvassed support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), encouraging voters to rally behind the party’s flag bearers in order to strengthen legislative collaboration and sustain development efforts across the state.

He emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct before, during, and after the election, charging residents to remain law-abiding and to shun any actions capable of disrupting public order.

“Everybody should be law abiding and avoid doing anything that will disturb the peace during the exercise. It is actually a family election and there is no need for rancour and acrimony,” the Governor stated.

Governor Fubara further noted that credible and peaceful elections remain the bedrock of democratic governance, urging security agencies, electoral officials, and community leaders to work together to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

He expressed confidence that the people of Ahoada East and Khana would once again demonstrate Rivers State’s strong democratic culture by conducting themselves responsibly and upholding the sanctity of the ballot.

The Governor reassured citizens of the state government’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment that allows voters to exercise their franchise freely and without intimidation.
