Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Tuesday paid an inspection visit to the construction site of the state’s 60 Megawatts Gas Turbine Power Project, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to boosting electricity supply and accelerating industrial growth in the state.

The governor, who was accompanied by top government officials, undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the level of work completed so far and received technical briefings from engineers handling the project. He emphasized the strategic importance of the power initiative to Bayelsa’s economic transformation agenda.
Among members of the governor’s entourage were the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei; the Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr. Peter Akpe; the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Maxwell Ebibai; Chief Dennis Otiotio, Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC in Bayelsa State; Hon. Gesiye Isowo, and other senior government functionaries.

Addressing engineers and project managers at the site, Governor Diri urged them to intensify efforts and adhere strictly to project timelines to ensure timely completion and commencement of operations. He stressed that the 60MW gas turbine plant would significantly improve power generation capacity within the state, reduce reliance on external supply, and create a more conducive environment for businesses and investors.
The governor noted that stable electricity remains a critical driver of economic development, job creation, and improved living standards. He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far but maintained that quality and speed must go hand in hand to deliver the project on schedule.

The gas turbine project is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Bayelsa’s electricity sector, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises, and enhancing public infrastructure across the state once operational.
The visit underscores the administration’s hands-on approach to monitoring key infrastructural projects aimed at fostering sustainable development in Bayelsa State.
