6th SDD Bayelsa Marathon Holds Saturday as Diri-Led Government Confirms Readiness

All arrangements have been concluded for the successful staging of the 6th edition of the SDD Bayelsa Marathon, scheduled to hold this Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The event is being organised in partnership with the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports Development under the administration of Governor Senator Douye Diri, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to sports development, youth empowerment, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Ahead of the marathon, runner fitness tests and accreditation commenced on Wednesday and will continue through Friday, February 6, 2026. Organisers have advised all registered participants to complete the mandatory medical screening and accreditation process to confirm their participation.

The exercise includes the collection of official runner’s number tags and verification of fitness status. It is scheduled to take place daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Medical Department of the Sports Complex, Ovom, Yenagoa.
The SDD Bayelsa Marathon has steadily grown into a major sporting fixture in the state, attracting athletes from different parts of the country while enhancing Bayelsa’s profile as an emerging destination for competitive sports and tourism.

With just two days to go, anticipation is building among runners, officials, and sports enthusiasts as Yenagoa prepares to host another memorable edition of the marathon.
