Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Wednesday, paid a heartfelt condolence visit to the family of the late Senator John Kojo Brambaifa at his residence in Edepie, Yenagoa, describing the deceased as an astute politician, accomplished administrator and a great community leader whose legacy of service will endure for generations.
The late Senator Brambaifa, who represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007, passed away on January 4, 2026, in Abuja at the age of 80.
During the solemn visit, Governor Diri extolled the virtues of the departed statesman, noting that Bayelsa had lost one of its most illustrious sons and a patriot who dedicated his life to the progress of his people and the development of the state.
According to the governor, the late lawmaker distinguished himself in public service with integrity, courage and unwavering commitment to community advancement.
“Senator Brambaifa was an illustrious son of Bayelsa, an astute politician and a great community leader who left behind a legacy of unblemished service,” Governor Diri said. “His contributions to the growth of Bayelsa West and the state at large will remain indelible in our history.”
He assured the bereaved family and the people of Agbere community of the state government’s full support throughout the funeral process.
“We assure you that we are only a call away. We will be part of the entire process that will lead to his final interment. Once again, we extend our deepest condolences to his children, the entire family and the good people of Agbere community,” he added.
Until his passing, Senator Brambaifa served as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Basambiri, in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, where he continued to contribute to national development through academic leadership and mentorship.
The governor’s visit drew family members, political associates and community leaders, who described the late senator as a bridge-builder, a voice of reason and a pillar of unity in Bayelsa politics.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the state and beyond, many remember Senator Brambaifa as a man whose life was defined by service, humility and steadfast devotion to the collective good.
