Gov Diri Celebrates Six Years in Office

Governor Douye Diri has expressed gratitude to God and the people of Bayelsa State as he marked the sixth anniversary of his inauguration, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a more united, peaceful and prosperous state.

In a statement to commemorate the milestone on February 14, 2026, Governor Diri described the past six years as a journey of purposeful leadership anchored on his administration’s vision of the “Government of Assured Prosperity.”

The governor also reflected on the passing of his former deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in December, describing him as a dependable partner in governance whose contributions would remain indelible in the history of the state. He prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Having secured the electoral mandate of Bayelsans on two occasions, Governor Diri appreciated the people for their continued trust and support. He noted that his administration has remained intentional in delivering impactful projects across critical sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, transportation, power, agriculture, trade and investment, youth and women empowerment, sports, the civil service and security.

Among major projects highlighted were the Sagbama–Ekeremor–Agge Road, Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie Road and the historic Nembe–Brass Road, aimed at opening up riverine communities and boosting economic activities.

He also listed legacy projects such as the Gas Turbines power project, the ongoing construction of a 30,000-seater Olympic-standard stadium at Igbogene, Yenagoa, and the nine-storey Public Service Secretariat Complex as landmark developments that would stand the test of time.

Governor Diri invited residents to an Anniversary Thanksgiving scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Ecumenical Centre, Igbogene, and congratulated all Bayelsans on the milestone, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to deliver lasting prosperity.
