FCE Isu Names Dr. Francis Nwangbo Azunku 2nd Provost

The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Isu (FCE Isu) has approved the appointment of Dr. Francis Nwangbo Azunku as the second Provost of the institution.

The appointment, which was formally announced on Thursday, February 26, 2026, followed a rigorous screening and interview exercise conducted in strict compliance with the Federal College of Education Act and other established guidelines regulating the appointment of provosts in federal colleges of education.

Dr. Azunku, a distinguished academic and seasoned administrator, currently serves as Chief Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Education at the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo. With over 22 years of experience in academia, he is widely respected for his scholarship, leadership capacity, and commitment to institutional growth.

Since joining the service of Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo in 2004, he has steadily risen through the ranks, attaining the position of Chief Lecturer in 2019. His administrative track record spans more than two decades and includes key positions such as Head of Department (2004–2007), Deputy Provost (2017–2021), Ex-Officio Member of the Governing Council (2017–2020), and Director of Consultancy Services (2023–date).
He has also served in 22 strategic institutional committees, notably as Chairman of the Curriculum Development and Implementation Committee (2025), Chairman of the Committee on the Status Upgrade of the College to a University of Education (2023), and Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Directors (2017–2021). His contributions in these roles significantly strengthened academic planning, policy development, and institutional reforms.

Academically, Dr. Azunku earned his first degree from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1999. He proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained his Master’s degree in 2008 and later a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education in 2019.

He is a member of five professional associations and a recipient of eight distinguished awards, underscoring his contributions to academic excellence and educational development.
Appreciation has also been extended to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his support and positive intervention in strengthening educational institutions in the state, including facilitating capable leadership at FCE Isu.

A native of Okwerike Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Dr. Azunku is married and blessed with children.

As he assumes office as the second Provost of FCE Isu, stakeholders have expressed optimism that his wealth of experience, visionary leadership, and dedication to academic excellence will usher in a new era of growth, innovation, and institutional transformation for the college.
