Diri Celebrates Ex-Commissioner, Prof. Angaye, at 90, Describes Him as Role Model and Mentor

Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Tuesday joined family, friends and associates to celebrate the 90th birthday of renowned academic and former commissioner, Prof. Gesiye Salo Angaye, in Yenagoa.

Prof. Angaye, a respected Professor of Economics and former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Bayelsa State, was honoured for his decades of service in academia and public administration.
Speaking at the celebration, Governor Diri paid glowing tribute to the nonagenarian, describing him as an exceptional scholar, mentor and role model whose impact has shaped many lives, including his.

“Most of us are what we are today because we passed through people like Prof. Angaye. He was my lecturer at the university. Our prayer is that he will live to celebrate many more years and that his legacies will continue to speak for him,” the governor said.
Diri noted that Prof. Angaye’s contributions to education and governance remain enduring, stressing that his life exemplifies discipline, excellence and selfless service. He added that the celebrant would continue to inspire younger generations to pursue knowledge and integrity in leadership.

“On behalf of the government and people of Bayelsa State, we wish him a happy 90th birthday and many more fruitful years ahead,” the governor stated.
The event attracted prominent dignitaries, including Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council and the legislature, as well as Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).

Others in attendance were Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Engr. Ken Etete, Chairman of Century Group, and other top government officials and stakeholders.

The celebration was marked by tributes highlighting Prof. Angaye’s distinguished career in academia and his invaluable contributions to the development of Bayelsa State.
