Diri: APC Congresses Unify Old, New Members as Party Gains Ground in KOLGA

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward and local government congresses in the state, describing the exercise as a unifying process that has successfully integrated old and new members of the party.

The governor spoke on Saturday at Kaiama, headquarters of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area (KOLGA), during the APC local government congress that produced 27 executive members, with Mr. Panebi Dibagha emerging as chairman through consensus.

Governor Diri said the congresses had erased all forms of division within the party in the state.
“As I have stated, there are no old and new members of APC anymore in the state. There should be no segregation of any sort,” he said. “If you look at the newly elected party executives, some of them have been in the APC for a long time while some have just joined. We have made it possible for all to integrate and work together for the good of our party.”

He noted that with the successful conduct of the ward and local government congresses, the party had strengthened its grassroots structure ahead of forthcoming elections.
“We have to win elections from the ward level. So by next year when we go into local government chairmen and councillors elections, I am very sure that APC will clear all the seats,” the governor stated.

Diri further declared that the APC had become the dominant political force in KOLGA, claiming that nearly 90 per cent of political leaders in the area had aligned with the party.

“For the first time, we have virtually 90 per cent of all the political leaders in Kolokuma/Opokuma in APC. I am convinced that in any future electoral contest in the state, APC will have a clean sweep. We will ensure that it is one man, one vote,” he said.
The governor charged the newly elected local government executives and state congress delegates to prioritise the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and work towards delivering overwhelming support for the party.

“Next year, we will have the presidential election. This is our number one priority and in Kolokuma/Opokuma, we can deliver up to 95 per cent of the votes. That is my charge to you and in every other election,” he added.

He also commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the congress, appreciating members, party leaders, the national and state congress committees, as well as observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.
The congress in KOLGA was conducted by the National Congress Committee led by Hon. Frank Omare, while Mr. Marlin Daniel chaired the local government election committee.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Mr. Panebi Dibagha, thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and other executive members, assuring that they would operate within the laws of the party and serve with fairness and consultation.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Diri for his leadership in both the party and the state, pledging that the new executive would emulate his consultative style in managing party affairs.
