Zabbey Engages Communities, Faith Groups During Yuletide Celebrations

Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), undertook a series of social, religious, and community engagements across Ogoni land during the 2025 Yuletide season, marking the period with activities that reflected friendship, faith, service, and development advocacy.

The festive engagements commenced on December 27, 2025, when Professor Zabbey paid a courtesy visit to his longtime friend, Professor Franklin Tanen, at Luumene Bangha in Khana Local Government Area. He later attended the wedding ceremony of Mr. and Mrs. John Nyiadah in Bodo City, joining family and friends to celebrate the union.
On December 29, the HYPREP Project Coordinator attended the funeral ceremony of the late Mrs. Rose Leekaagha Koroba, mother of Rev. Fr. Aloysius Koroba, in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area. After the burial rites, Professor Zabbey joined other eminent personalities on a thank-you visit to the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, at Bera in Gokana LGA.

As part of activities to mark the New Year, 2026, Professor Zabbey worshipped with Catholic faithful at St. Brigid Catholic Church, Bodo, where special prayers were offered for his success and leadership as Project Coordinator of HYPREP.
Later the same day, the Gberesakoo Hall in Gokana LGA played host to the second edition of the Academic Excellence Award 2025 for Government Secondary Schools in Gokana, organized by Bright Minds Assistance Foundation, a non-governmental organization led by Barrister (Mrs.) Leziga Cecilia Mitee. Professor Zabbey chaired the event and commended the foundation for its sustained commitment to human capital development and educational excellence in Ogoni.

In gratitude to God for a successful and eventful year, Professor Zabbey, accompanied by members of his family, attended the Feast of Epiphany and held a private family thanksgiving service at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Bodo City.
The HYPREP Project Coordinator also used the festive season to engage with various socio-cultural groups during their end-of-year events, where he shared HYPREP’s milestone achievements. The groups included First Friends of Gokana, Abule Congress, and the Royal Organization of Bodo City.

In a related development, the leadership of the Gokana Youth Council, led by Comrade Kpalap Barinaadaa, presented a portrait gift to Professor Zabbey in appreciation of his dedication to youth development through the Ogoni Cleanup Programme. The council commended his efforts, describing his leadership as impactful and people-oriented.
Professor Zabbey’s Yuletide engagements underscored his strong ties with the Ogoni people and his continued commitment to community development, education, faith, and environmental restoration in the Niger Delta.
