The Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, has received an award for exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to environmental remediation and sustainable development in Ogoniland.
The award was presented by Super 93.3 FM, Port Harcourt, in recognition of Professor Zabbey’s unwavering commitment to the successful implementation of the Ogoni cleanup programme and his impactful leadership of the project.
Presenting the award at the HYPREP Project Coordination Office in Port Harcourt, the Business Manager of Super 93.3 FM, Segun Owolabi, said the honour was bestowed on the HYPREP Project Coordinator in appreciation of his dedication, professionalism and results-driven approach to addressing decades of hydrocarbon pollution in Ogoniland.
According to Owolabi, Professor Zabbey’s leadership has strengthened public confidence in the remediation process while promoting sustainable development initiatives that are critical to the wellbeing of affected communities.
Professor Zabbey, a recipient of the prestigious ASLO 2022 Ruth Patrick Award and several other local and international honours for his contributions to science and community service, expressed gratitude to Super 93.3 FM for the recognition.
He dedicated the award to the entire HYPREP team, noting that the success recorded so far in Ogoniland is the product of collective effort, commitment and professionalism.
The HYPREP Project Coordinator reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to deliver a sustainable and transparent cleanup programme in Ogoni, adding that the ongoing remediation efforts are expected to serve as a model for addressing environmental pollution challenges in other parts of Nigeria.
