Ogu Chiefs Install NDDC MD As Chief, Confer Pere Se Bobo Title On Him

The Wakirike people of Ogu Kingdom in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, known for their deep-rooted traditions and cautious approach to chieftaincy matters, have installed the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as a chief, marking a notable moment in the history of the Kingdom’s traditional institution.

The installation ceremony took place on Thursday, January 29, following the decision of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs, led by its Chairman, Chief (Hon.) Barrister Lawrence Abiebiari Inibi Egbelekleke. The recipient was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Pere Se Bobo, meaning “He Who Comes with Abundance.”
According to the Chiefs-in-Council, the conferment followed careful deliberation and was in recognition of the individual’s contributions to the development of Ogu Kingdom and the wider Wakirike area. With the installation, all rights, privileges and honours associated with the title were formally bestowed.

By virtue of the installation, the new chief has been admitted as a full member of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs, with the right to participate in statutory and annual council meetings. He was also formally declared a natural indigene of Ogu Kingdom.
Speaking on the honour, he expressed appreciation on behalf of the Management and staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission, noting that the recognition reflects the impact of the Commission’s development efforts across Ogu Kingdom and Wakirike land.

He highlighted the NDDC’s ongoing commitment to infrastructural development, institutional strengthening and people-centred governance, adding that the Commission remains resolute in its mandate to reposition the Niger Delta region through sustainable development initiatives.
He further commended the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the NDDC, Alabo Boma Iyaye, a son of Ogu Kingdom, for his support and dedication to the development of the kingdom and the Niger Delta region as a whole.
