Education Remains Top Priority of My Administration — Fubara



Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed that education remains a major priority of his administration, describing it as the foundation for character development, discipline and sustainable growth among youths in the state.

The Governor stated this on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Government House, Port Harcourt, during a solidarity visit by the Rivers State Parents Teachers Association (PTA) in support of his administration.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Sirawoo, Governor Fubara said his government places high importance on education as a critical tool for shaping the future of Rivers State and improving societal values.

He commended the PTA for its unity and show of support, noting that the solidarity visit reflected a sense of collective responsibility and contributed to strengthened governance in the state.

Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to good governance, stressing that the welfare and overall progress of Rivers people remain the guiding principles behind all government policies and programmes.

On achievements in the education sector, he disclosed that the State Executive Council had approved the recruitment of 5,000 teachers, adding that about 90 percent of the 9,500 recently employed workers were deployed to the education sector.

He called on the PTA to continue promoting peace and unity across the state, describing the association as a key partner in sustaining stability and development.

Earlier, the Secretary of the Rivers State PTA, Mrs Finomo Grace, commended the Governor for his commitment to education, particularly in the areas of teacher recruitment, prompt payment of salaries and improvement of school facilities. She appealed for additional interventions, including the absorption of volunteer teachers, better incentives for rural postings, renovation of schools and enhanced security.

Also speaking, the State President of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Comrade Micah Emmanuel, praised Governor Fubara for improving teachers’ welfare and restoring confidence in public schools, while urging sustained investment in infrastructure and capacity building across the education sector.
