Abuja — The Senate has set March 17, 2026, for the passage of the ₦58.472 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill, outlining a clear timeline for concluding the budget process.
According to Channels Television, the date was agreed during plenary after the Senate Committee on Appropriations presented its legislative timetable.
Under the schedule, Senate committees will review and defend budget estimates from ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), before submitting reports to the Appropriations Committee for harmonisation ahead of final approval.
Committee Chairman Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola said the timeline allows sufficient time for lawmakers to scrutinise proposals and engage government officials on key fiscal assumptions.
The 2026 budget, presented to the National Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, proposes total expenditure of ₦58.472 trillion.
The Senate is expected to intensify budget activities over the coming weeks to meet the March 17 deadline.
