Ikpemini Emerges OIU President General, Pledges CBT Centre for Ohafia

Chief Prince Kalu Ikpemini has been elected President General of the Ohafia Improvement Union (OIU) Incorporated, with a pledge to establish a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre in Ohafia to support candidates writing the Joint Matriculation Examination (JME).

Ikpemini, a former President General of the Elu Development Union (EDU), National, and Omereoha I of Ohafia, emerged winner of the election held at the Udumeze Hall, Elu Ohafia. He polled 54 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Olugu Kalu Ugba, who scored 41 votes.
In his acceptance speech after receiving his Certificate of Return, Ikpemini expressed gratitude to delegates for their confidence and support. He assured that his administration would work as a team to address critical challenges facing Ohafia, particularly the provision of stable electricity and potable water.

He also lamented the absence of a functional CBT centre in Ohafia, noting the hardship faced by candidates who travel long distances to write the JME. Ikpemini pledged that a CBT facility would be established in the area before the end of next year.
In the deputy president general contest, Dr Ukpai Ukpai Eni emerged victorious after scoring 48 votes to edge out Prince Okam, who polled 45 votes. Prince Ikpo Odo Okereke was elected Secretary General, securing 70 votes to defeat Mr Awa Okwara Mba, who garnered 23 votes.

The election was conducted by an electoral committee chaired by Very Rev. (Dr) Kelechi Awa, with Chief Stephen Idika serving as secretary. The process was widely adjudged by stakeholders as transparent, orderly, peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
Prior to the commencement of voting, Very Rev. Awa urged delegates to vote wisely and encouraged contestants to accept the outcome in good faith, describing participation in the election as a demonstration of shared commitment to the progress and prosperity of Ohafia.

Candidates for the positions of treasurer, assistant secretary, publicity secretary, financial secretary, assistant financial secretary, provost I, and provost II were returned unopposed.
