NCSU Faults Pro-Wike Lawmakers' Ultimatum To Fubara

The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) has taken to the cleaners the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, for issuing an ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara over some political appointments recently made by his administration.

The Rivers State Chairman of NCSU, Comrade Chukwuka Richman Osumah, who condemned the action of the embattled lawmakers in an interview in Port Harcourt, described the ultimatum as empty, frivolous, lacking substance, null and void.

He said the lawmakers lack the locus, power and moral ground to issue such an ultimatum to Governor Fubara, having lost their relevance long time ago, following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The labour leader posited that the earlier the lawmakers wake up from their immense grandeur of illusion and face the reality of the day, the better for them, as they ceased from being members of the State Assembly the day they decamped from the PDP.
To butress his point, Osumah noted that there is already an existing judgment given by the Supreme Court, on matters bordering on the defection of lawmakers in some other States of the federation, saying the worst case scenario is for the pro-Wike lawmakers to prepare to contest in the bye-elections, in order to reclaim their seats.

He said issuing frivolous ultimatums to the Governor as well as indulging in unnecessary antics to divert attention, would do the lawmakers no good, as doing so is only capable of causing more political crisis and instability in the State.

While advising the lawmakers to retrace their steps, the NCSU chairman aligned himself with the position of the Chizi Enyi-led group, calling for the eviction of the lawmakers from the Legislative Quarters in Port Harcourt.
He, however, said it was wrong for the group to give Governor Fubara an ultimatum to evict the lawmakers, saying, merely asking the Governor to carry out the action would have been enough.

Osumah also carpeted some Senators loyal to Wike for visiting Rivers State to drum support for the embattled 27 Rivers lawmakers, saying the visit is nothing but a recipe for chaos and confusion, warning that the Senators, led by Senator Barry Mpigi would be held responsible if anything untoward happens to Rivers State.

Instead of toeing the path of peace and development, he wondered why the federal lawmakers would abandon their duty posts in Abuja and come to the State to create more problems.
Describing the action of the Senators as uncivilised and shameless, Osumah said the NCSU is watching the situation closely, and would not hesitate to mobilise the entire workers in the State to rise against those fanning the ambers of war, violence and chaos in the State.

He also used the opportunity to applaud Governor Fubara for approving the promotion of civil servants in the State, saying over 1,000 core civil servants had already been interviewed by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission for promotion this year.

He said with that singular gesture, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to good governance, which those he described as enemies of the State are assiduously working hard to destroy and truncate.
